Polish Restaurants Across the U.S. Packed for National Pierogi Day Celebration

Polish restaurants throughout the United States are experiencing a surge in visitors as they celebrate National Pierogi Day, offering special promotions and feasts centered around this iconic Polish dish. From bustling eateries to cultural centers, the day has become a popular way to honor Poland’s culinary heritage, with pierogi taking the spotlight.

Established in 2008, National Pierogi Day coincides with the anniversary of Mrs. T’s, the country’s largest producer of frozen pierogi. Founded by the Twardzik family in Pennsylvania in 1952, the company now produces 600 million pierogi each year. The holiday also aligns with Polish Heritage Month, adding to its importance in Polish-American communities.

In Troy, Michigan, the American Polish Cultural Center hosts a pierogi buffet, offering unlimited servings of nine varieties for $25.95, drawing in large crowds for its third consecutive year. Similar events are taking place in cities like New York, Chicago, Buffalo, and Philadelphia, where Little Walters restaurant offered free pierogi and a sold-out nine-course pierogi feast.

“Pierogi are a great way to promote Polish cuisine,” says Alicja Karlic, director of the Polish Media Center in Michigan. As National Pierogi Day grows in popularity, Polish restaurants across the U.S. continue to attract food lovers eager to indulge in this beloved dish.
