Stroke recovery in Poland struggles with limited rehab access, with only 25% of patients returning to work.
Stroke is the second leading cause of death in Poland, leaving many patients disabled and at risk of permanent social exclusion. In 2023, there were 74,700 ischemic stroke cases recorded in the country.
Limited Access to Rehabilitation
Despite advances in acute stroke treatment, Poland lags behind the EU average in providing early rehabilitation. Only 22% of stroke survivors received rehabilitation within the critical first two weeks.
Return to Work: A Struggle for Most Patients
Shockingly, only 25% of stroke survivors in Poland return to work, compared to 75% in Sweden. Experts urge systemic changes, such as stroke navigators and legal advocates, to improve patient outcomes.
As stroke cases rise, the need for comprehensive care, including better access to physical therapy, grows. The full report on the situation will be available on October 29, during World Stroke Day.
