Priest and Former Officials Released on Bail After 213 Days in Custody

After 213 days in detention, Fr. Michał Olszewski and two former officials from the Ministry of Justice have been granted conditional release. Yesterday, the Warsaw Court of Appeals decided the three could leave custody if each paid a bail of 350,000 PLN, allowing them potentially to regain their freedom as early as today.

    Bail Deposits Secured

According to Olszewski’s attorney, Michał Skwarzyński, the bail amount for Fr. Olszewski has already been deposited into the prosecutor’s account, financed by his fellow priests from the Sacred Heart Order. Support also came from public figures, with TV Republika’s program director Michał Rachoń pledging financial support for the two ex-officials.

In addition to institutional contributions, several political figures expressed their support. Former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and PiS MEP Daniel Obajtek were among those advocating for Fr. Olszewski’s release, signaling widespread attention to the case and a complex intersection of legal, religious, and political interests.
