A new poll conducted for TV Republika shows that 73% of Poles believe Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s government will implement the EU migration pact. Despite strong public opposition to accepting migrants, Tusk’s administration continues to follow the EU’s agenda. On the program “Today’s Guest”, journalist Danuta Holecka spoke with politicians about the crisis of Polish sovereignty, unprecedented violations of civil rights, and the harsh repression of government opponents.
Poll Results Leave No Doubt: Tusk Will Ignore the Will of the Majority
According to the survey cited by Telewizja Republika, a staggering 73% of Poles do not trust the government’s assurances that it will not implement the migration pact. During a parliamentary discussion, one accusation was clear: the current government is deliberately ignoring the public’s voice in favor of fulfilling commitments to Berlin and Brussels.
“It’s not surprising. The government may try to stir confusion, but reasonable people hear the statements from EU officials and know that all countries will be subject to the migration pact,” said PiS MP Zbigniew Kuźmiuk.
Kuźmiuk also pointed out that even if the government theoretically opts out of accepting migrants, it will be forced to pay hefty penalties.
“It could be €20,000 per migrant, even €40,000. These are massive financial burdens that could be impossible to handle. The only option left is to withdraw from the pact,” he warned.
Referendum Ignored – A Mandate for Betrayal
In 2023, a national referendum was held in which 11 million Poles participated—despite efforts to sabotage it—and 97% voted against accepting migrants. However, Donald Tusk chose not to recognize the results of this vote.
“What Tusk did—nullifying the referendum—was a crime. If he were a responsible leader, he wouldn’t have fought the referendum. He could’ve used it as a strong mandate to block the migration pact,” Kuźmiuk noted.
“It was a calculated move. He was afraid that a valid referendum would tie his hands and prevent him from fulfilling his obligations to Germany,” he added.
Germany Has Already Made Up Its Mind
Witold Tumanowicz from the Confederation Party expressed no illusions about the government’s real intentions. He referenced recent election campaigns in Germany, where politicians openly suggested that relocating migrants to Poland would help solve Germany’s own migration problems.
“Just listen to German politicians. They openly say in their election debates that they’ve struck a deal with the Polish Prime Minister and other leaders to send migrants here. Unfortunately, I believe them,” he said.
Tumanowicz also highlighted the construction of Foreigners’ Integration Centers, such as in Zamość, which he claims are part of the preparation for mass migrant relocation.
“People don’t want these migrants or the centers. They know what the situation is like abroad and what it leads to. The social costs will be enormous,” he warned.
Migrant Benefits Higher Than Pensions?
According to Tumanowicz, if migrants are to stay in Poland, the government will have to provide benefits comparable to those in Germany—otherwise, the migrants will simply leave.
“Soon we’ll find out that a migrant receives more in benefits than Polish retirees get in pensions,”
he said, pointing to growing social injustice.
Matecki in Handcuffs, Civil Servant Separated from Sick Child
Beyond migration issues, the program also addressed disturbing practices by the prosecution and law enforcement under Justice Minister Adam Bodnar. MP Dariusz Matecki was arrested and detained despite battling a serious cancer. He was denied contact with his lawyer and family for two weeks. On Thursday, he was taken to the hospital, only to be returned to his cell the next day.
“They’re driven by blind revenge. What could Matecki possibly tamper with? This is about intimidating the public—showing that if they can treat an MP like this, imagine what they can do to an ordinary citizen,” Kuźmiuk said.
Equally shocking was the case of a Chancellery employee who was transported in handcuffs and denied access to her sick child.
“As Ombudsman, Minister Bodnar opposed using full restraints even on dangerous criminals. And now he allows such treatment of a woman who hasn’t even been charged. This isn’t justice—it’s a show of force,” Tumanowicz concluded.
