NAC Breda Fans Honor Polish Liberators in Spectacular Match-Day Display

In a powerful tribute to history, fans of the Dutch football club NAC Breda delivered a memorable display during the Eredivisie match against RKC Waalwijk. The stadium was alive with the message “PAMIĘTAMY” (We Remember), written boldly in white letters on a red-and-white background—a heartfelt homage to Polish soldiers who liberated Breda in 1944.

The city of Breda was freed on October 29, 1944, by Polish forces under General Stanisław Maczek. His innovative tactics preserved much of the city’s architecture, a fact commemorated today. Many soldiers from Maczek’s division are buried in Breda, where their descendants live up to this day.

The club celebrated the display on its official Facebook page, emphasizing the significance of 80 years of freedom. Each letter of “PAMIĘTAMY” was filled with scenes symbolizing Breda’s liberation, underscoring the fans’ deep gratitude for the soldiers’ sacrifices. “Maczek and his men fought for every street and refused to surrender,” the club posted, encouraging the NAC Breda players to match this bravery and resilience throughout the season.

The tribute captured the spirit of Breda’s history, blending the passions of football and freedom for a night the fans—and the city—will not soon forget.
