World Architecture Festival 2024: Celebrating Design Excellence and Lublin’s Triumph
The World Architecture Festival, an international celebration of design excellence, has been held annually since 2008. This year’s event featured exhibitions, lectures, and an award ceremony honoring standout projects in architecture, interiors, and landscapes. Lublin’s victory underscores the city’s growing reputation, adding to its recent designation as the European Capital of Culture for 2029.
Lublin’s Metropolitan Station: A Sustainable and Green Transport Hub
Located near the Lublin railway station, the Metropolitan Station serves as a cutting-edge transport hub that integrates urban and intercity bus platforms, taxi stands, and bike racks. Its striking glass structure, framed by elegant, chalice-shaped white columns, is both functional and visually stunning. The design incorporates a “building within a building” concept to enhance energy efficiency, along with photovoltaic panels, heat-retaining concrete walls, and a gray water recycling system for sustainability.
Greenery is a defining feature of the station. A vertical garden adorns one wall, while the roof boasts a terrace with potted trees and a children’s play area. The surrounding landscape features an array of trees, shrubs, and ornamental plants, creating a serene atmosphere in the heart of a bustling transport hub.
Metropolitan Station’s Growing Legacy: A Global Beacon of Sustainable Design
This award adds to the station’s growing list of accolades, including recognition at the World Building of the Year (2019), Real Estate Impactor (2020), and Green Building Awards (2022). The Metropolitan Station exemplifies how architecture can seamlessly combine functionality, environmental stewardship, and striking aesthetics, solidifying its place as a beacon of modern design on the global stage.
