Lewandowski in euphoria! “I feel like I’m in a science fiction film”

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski broke Gerd Müller’s record. Müller set the record in the 1971/72 season with 40 goals. Lewandowski scored in the last minute of the last match, a 5-2 win over Augsburg and he set a new record with 41 goals in a single season. “I felt tension up to the last seconds,” he revealed.

During the Saturday match, which was the last in the season, Lewandowski tried to beat Rafał Gikiewicz several times, but the Polish Augsburg goalkeeper was better every time – up to 90 minutes when he effectively intervened after Leroy Sane’s ball, but he was helpless on the shot of the countryman. Just after that match, which sets the score of 5:2 for Bayern, the judge ended the match.

“I feel a bit like in a science fiction movie. I am missing words. I tried to shoot a goal for 90 minutes, but it didn’t come out and then it was last. I felt tension up to the last seconds,” said Lewandowski on Sky television.

The 32-year-old captain of the Polish national team thanked his teammates and dedicated them to this record.

“I am grateful to the team who has done everything to help me win this goal. I share this record with those who allowed me to set it up,” added Lewandowski.

For the fourth time in a row and the sixth time in a career, the Pole became the king of the Bundesliga shooters. He has won 277 goals in these competitions since the beginning of his career.
