On February 2nd, Warta Mouth National Park in Poland will celebrate World Wetlands Day for the 25th time, commemorating the 1971 Ramsar Convention. The event, hosted at the park’s Museum and Education Center in Słońsk, aims to highlight the significance of wetlands for both nature and humans. The program includes scientific lectures, artistic performances, children’s nature workshops, and a photography exhibition. Visitors can also explore interactive displays showcasing the park’s diverse wildlife. The event will conclude with a guided nature walk.
The Ecological Role of Wetlands
The wetlands of Warta Mouth National Park provide a crucial habitat for over 280 bird species and play a vital role in climate regulation by storing carbon dioxide. These floodplains also act as natural reservoirs, holding up to 200 million cubic meters of water and reducing flood risks.
