An interview with Donald Tusk on TVN24 was watched by fewer people than the program Dzisiaj and an interview with Mateusz Morawiecki on TV Republika, according to Jarosław Olechowski, head of publishers at Dom Wolnego Słowa, who shared the information on social media. He attached Nielsen data showing a significant gap between the competing stations. And these are not the only good news for Republika.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Donald Tusk was a guest in the TVN24 studio. The interview has been widely commented on, partly because the head of government mentioned how the U.S. president praised him after making a mistake.
At the same time, former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki gave an interview in the TV Republika studio. He responded to attacks from the ruling party regarding postal elections and summarized the government’s smear campaign against the station he was visiting, which, according to a new study, is now the most-watched in Poland.
“TV Republika is not only the largest news television in Poland, but we also regularly beat stations from the so-called ‘big four’—yesterday, we outperformed TVP2 and TVN,” said Jarosław Olechowski, head of Republika’s publishers, on social media. He cited Nielsen data showing that on February 27, Republika’s market share was 6.29%, while its biggest competitor, TVN24, had 5.9%.
He stated, “This is why there is such a furious attack on Republika from practically all sides.” He added, “This is a measure of our shared success, because without you—our viewers—it would not have been possible to build such a strong television station and reshape the media landscape of the Third Polish Republic.”
Olechowski also shared data regarding the Thursday evening interviews. It turns out that the interview with Tusk on TVN24 was watched by fewer people than the simultaneous interview with Morawiecki on Republika. Dom Wolnego Słowa was watched by around 1.1 million viewers, while TVN24 had approximately 800,000.
