Attorney Drozdowicz: A Prosecutor Who Says It’s Not the Time to Follow the Law Should Be Fired Immediately

Attorney Mikołaj Drozdowicz was a guest on Michał Jelonek’s program on Telewizja Republika, where they discussed the politicization of the prosecutor’s office and the tragic death of Barbara Skrzypek.

A Three-on-One Interrogation

Attorney Drozdowicz spoke about the death of Barbara Skrzypek, who passed away after being questioned by Prosecutor Ewa Wrzosek.

“This case is exceptional, as Mrs. Skrzypek’s legal representative has pointed out. It’s entirely fabricated for political purposes, orchestrated by Mr. Giertych and Gazeta Wyborcza. There is no clear reason why this investigation is even taking place—it’s completely baseless, something even Gazeta Wyborcza has written about. The prosecutor handling this case is an extremely politicized figure. On top of that, the interrogation was conducted with legal representatives present who were all aligned with one side. So effectively, it was three against one. Given these circumstances and Mrs. Skrzypek’s health condition, her legal counsel absolutely should have been allowed to be present during the questioning. One could say that this interrogation of a witness took place without the witness,” emphasized Attorney Drozdowicz.

Prosecutor Wrzosek’s Extreme Politicization

Drozdowicz also commented on the statements made by the prosecutor’s office and Prosecutor Wrzosek herself, in which they threatened consequences for anyone attempting to draw a causal link between the interrogation and Barbara Skrzypek’s death.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if the prosecution starts going after anyone who dares to say anything about this case. But as long as we can speak and shout, there is still hope. And as a citizen, I will speak about it openly and boldly. We are dealing with a scandal on multiple levels. Ms. Wrzosek is an extremely politicized figure and should never have been allowed anywhere near this case. She is incapable of maintaining objectivity and impartiality—she acts on emotions and lacks professionalism. She should not be a prosecutor at all.
A few months ago, she said that we are in a ‘transitional period’ and that this is not the time to strictly adhere to the letter of the law. Such a statement is an aberration and a betrayal of all legal norms. If a prosecutor claims that now is not the time to follow the law, that prosecutor should be fired immediately. That would be like a doctor saying they won’t follow the Hippocratic Oath or lawyers deciding they won’t uphold attorney-client privilege. It’s outrageous—an absolute violation of the fundamental principles of the rule of law,” said Attorney Drozdowicz.
