I look at the work of Cyprian Kamil Norwid as a signpost; Norwid was able to combine the tradition we draw from our ancestors with a look into the future, said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki on the 200th anniversary of the poet’s birth at the Cyprian Kamil Norwid General Education Highschool in Radzymin.
200 years ago, Cyprian Kamil Norwid, a poet, prose writer, playwright, sculptor, painter, and draftsman, was born in the Mazovian village of Laskowo-Głuchy; underestimated during his lifetime, years later he was included in the pantheon of Polish bards.
The head of the government described Norwid as “a lighthouse during the time of captivity”.
“I look at his work as a kind of signpost that can guide us also on the way to modernity, because Norwid in his wonderful poems was able to combine tradition amazingly, the depth that we draw from our ancestors, the generations, that were before us, with the look to the future,” said Prime Minister Morawiecki.
He emphasized the links between the past and the future in Norwid’s work and the role of patriotism in the poems of the poet. Mateusz Morawiecki stated that Norwid showed how to be a proud Pole and a proud European. He also emphasized that Norwid believed in the timelessness of truth and the timelessness of good.
