A 25-year-old Afghan citizen has murdered a 41-year-old Polish woman. The tragedy occurred in the German city of Krefeld, located in North Rhine-Westphalia. The woman, who managed a clothing store belonging to a well-known retail chain, was killed in the store’s backroom.
The attack took place on Wednesday evening. According to German police, both the perpetrator and the victim were employees of the clothing store, which is part of a well-known retail chain located on Hochstraße in Krefeld.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:20 p.m. in the employee break room of a New Yorker clothing store. The Afghan man stabbed the woman with a knife. He was unable to flee the scene of the crime and was quickly apprehended. Authorities reported that efforts to save the woman’s life were unsuccessful.
The suspect has been formally charged with murder. Following a court decision, he has been placed in temporary custody. He has not responded to the charges brought against him.
The motive for the attack remains unknown. However, the German news outlet Focus disclosed that the Afghan national was found in possession of stolen money at the time of his arrest. The 41-year-old victim was his supervisor.
A store employee gave a statement to German media, suggesting that robbery was a likely motive.
“Before 8 p.m., we no longer serve customers and begin counting the cash from the registers. All the money is taken upstairs to the office and put into the safe. He simply took advantage of that,”
the employee said in an interview with RTL.
The retail chain also issued a statement regarding the crime, expressing that it was “deeply shocked” by the incident. The company has offered psychological and pastoral support to its employees at the location.
The branch where the murder occurred will remain closed until further notice.
