    Polish cemeteries, graves, historic necropolises … They do not remain unattended

    The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage exercises constant supervision and care over 98 cemeteries and war quarters in 53 countries outside Poland, incl. Italy, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, Lebanon, the Ministry’s website reported.

    “The graves of soldiers of the Polish Army, Polish exiles, refugees, and civilian victims of wars, which are testimony to Polish fate, are scattered across almost all continents of the globe. The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage exercises permanent supervision and care over 98 cemeteries and war quarters in 53 countries outside Poland, including Italy, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, Lebanon, Iran and Israel,” reports the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.

    It was indicated that “in many Polish necropolises, both war and historic, conservation and renovation works are carried out with the funds of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage”.

    “In total, in 2017-2020, the Ministry allocated over PLN 42 million to the construction, reconstruction, renovation, care and maintenance of Polish cemeteries outside the Republic of Poland,” it was reported.

    It was recalled that from 2017 in Europe, conservation and renovation works at war cemeteries were carried out in 11 countries – in Italy, France, Germany, Romania, Russia, and Serbia, as well as in Belarus, Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania, and Hungary.

    In Italy, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage takes care of the conservation of three Polish war cemeteries: Monte Cassino, Loreto, and Bologna.
