This is a great cultural event; it happens rarely that a series based on a Polish book becomes viral – said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, referring to the new season of “The Witcher” episodes. He stressed that the strength of Andrzej Sapkowski’s story lies in its universality.
Since Friday (17 Dec), the second season of “The Witcher” based on the saga written by Andrzej Sapkowski is available on Netflix. The first season of the series was extremely popular, and the books of the Polish writer were at the top of international bestseller lists for several weeks. The premiere of the second season was anticipated by viewers around the world.
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki referred to it in his weekly podcast, judging it to be a “great cultural event”. “It is rare for a film or series based on a Polish book to become so viral,” the Prime Minister pointed out.
He stressed that he was aware that between the book and the series, there was also a computer game.
“Over 50 million copies of the entire “Witcher” series sold speaks for itself – it is one of the most popular games in the world today, and at the same time shows the great potential of Polish developers, especially since their games are mostly sold abroad,” he said.
As he added, while talking about this topic, it’s impossible not to mention the series’ producer Tomasz Baginski. “It is because of people like him that our culture is developing,” he said.
