Piotr Michalski won the gold medal at the European Speed Skating Championships in the 500 m race in the Dutch city of Heerenveen.
Marek Kania took eighth place and Damian Żurek 12th.

This is Michalski’s first ME medal in the individual competition and third overall. Both four years ago and on Saturday, he won bronze in the team sprint.

It is also the red and white team’s third medal at the event in Heerenveen, which ended on Sunday. They previously won two – a women’s gold and a men’s bronze, both in sprint team races.
