“Pressure works” – stated former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in reference to the release of Anna Wójcik from detention. The politician expressed gratitude to all those who contributed to securing the release of the woman who had been held for two months.
On Thursday, shortly after 1:00 PM, Anna Wójcik was released from the detention centre in Katowice. A former associate of Mateusz Morawiecki, she had been held for approximately two months in connection with an investigation into alleged irregularities at the Government Strategic Reserves Agency. As previously reported multiple times, her detention had a profoundly detrimental effect on her disabled son. The 13-year-old reportedly experienced suicidal thoughts.

The release of the civil servant has sparked widespread public commentary. Among those who addressed the matter was the former prime minister himself.
“Pressure works. After more than two months in political pre-trial detention, Mrs Anna can return to her suffering children,”
Morawiecki declared in a video statement published online.
He thanked “all people of goodwill who, through their actions, made it possible for Mrs Anna to be released from this political detention imposed by [Justice Minister] Bodnar.”
“We know how painful separation from a child is for any parent. I wouldn’t wish this on even my worst enemies,”
he added.
Attorney Krzysztof Wąsowski also stated that it was public pressure that led to the woman’s release. “Lawyers love to bask in their successes, but this is not our success. This is your success. This is the success of public opinion,” emphasized the legal representative of Anna Wójcik.
The bail for Anna Wójcik, set at 400,000 PLN, will be paid by Joanna Jenerowicz, president of the Independent Media Foundation.
