On Sunday, a fire broke out at an aerosol factory in Charnowo, in the Ustka municipality. Forty-seven fire units are fighting the blaze. Police are evacuating nearby residents.
The spokesperson for the Voivodeship Headquarters of the State Fire Service, Junior Asp. Dawid Westrych, told the Polish Press Agency (PAP) on Sunday that at around 12:40 p.m., firefighters received a report of a fire at a facility producing aerosols in the village of Charnowo, Słupsk County.
“After arriving at the scene, firefighters confirmed that the entire facility was engulfed in flames. A total of 47 units of the State Fire Service and Volunteer Fire Service were dispatched. The Pomeranian Voivodeship Commander of the State Fire Service, Senior Brig. Jacek Niewęgłowski, sent an operational group to the scene under the command of the Deputy Pomeranian Voivodeship Commander of the State Fire Service, Senior Brig. Tomasz Banach,” Westrych added.
Specialized units are also operating at the scene, including a chemical response team, medical support, and a drone unit monitoring the development of the fire from the air.
According to firefighters, due to the threat, police are evacuating residents living in the immediate vicinity of the factory.
The situation is dynamic. Firefighters are conducting firefighting operations and assessing the threat.
“Due to the type of production carried out at the facility and the materials stored there, there is a potential risk of explosive incidents. Firefighters are taking measures to limit the threat and secure the site,” Westrych explained.
At this time, there are no reported injuries.
Air quality is being continuously monitored by the services. Measurements are being carried out by a specialized chemical unit. Residents will be informed on an ongoing basis about any threats – firefighters assure.
