He emphasized that the Polish consul remains in contact with local services, the police, and the hospital where the Polish woman is being treated.
The Condition of the Polish Woman Unknown
On Saturday in Modena, a speeding car drove into a group of pedestrians, injuring eight people, including three seriously.
“Among those injured in the tragedy in Modena is a Polish citizen. Our consul remains in contact with local services, the police, and the hospital where our citizen is staying,” Wewiór told journalists.
He stressed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not provide information regarding the health condition of the injured Polish woman.
Immigrant Identified as Perpetrator. Under Psychiatric Treatment
The attacker behind the assault in the center of Modena is a 31-year-old man from a family of immigrants from Morocco. Media reports indicate that he had been undergoing psychiatric treatment. When he was apprehended by a group of men, he stabbed one of them with a knife. The individuals then handed the attacker over to the police.
Meloni Cancels Cyprus Visit and Travels to Modena
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni canceled her Sunday visit to Cyprus and is returning to the country to travel to Modena – sources from her office said. The head of the Italian government will go to Modena, where the President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, is also expected. The politicians are to jointly visit the injured in hospital. Among them is a woman who lost both legs.
According to local media, those injured include a Polish citizen and a tourist from Germany.
