Poland advanced to the 1/8 finals of the World Cup in Qatar despite a 0:2 defeat to Argentina. Now, the White Reds will face France.
The clash with Argentina was not one of the best. The rivals dominated from the start. The first half, however, instils optimism in fans. Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny defended an unjustly awarded penalty kick. In doing so, he stopped world football legend, Lionel Messi.
In the second half, however, everything changed. The Poles were already completely dominated by the Argentinians. It was they who set the pace of the game and scored two goals.

Despite the win, however, it was the Poles who advanced to the knockout stage for the first time in 36 years. They secured their advance with a better goal difference as Mexico beat Saudi Arabia only 2:1 on Wednesday. The President of the Polish Football Association, Cezary Kulesza, rejoiced at the promotion to the knockout stage.
“Today, the most important thing is promotion! We got it! We are in the 1/8 finals of the World Cup after 36 years! We came out of the group in pain, but now all that matters is the match against France. Be with us!” he wrote on Twitter.
Polish national team’s defender Kamil Glik also commented on the match.
“It was a specific match. It’s hard to be happy after a defeat, but it’s a bittersweet evening for us,”

The Polish team will face the defending champions France on Sunday. It will be tough to win against them, but it is possible. Yesterday, Tunisia beat France 1:0 in their last Group D match.
