Anna Fotyga Examines Israeli Ambassador’s Biography, Issues Powerful Statement on “Relations with Berlin and Moscow

“Shocked by the comment of the Israeli ambassador in Warsaw, I familiarized myself with his official biography. It would be better for the relations between our nations and centuries of shared history if Israel did not base its policies towards Poland as a by-product of its relations with Berlin and Moscow. Poland is a sovereign state,” said Anna Fotyga, a Member of the European Parliament from the Law and Justice Party (PiS).

The recent remarks by the Israeli ambassador in Poland, Yakov Livne, have sparked a flurry of comments. The ambassador accused both the Polish “far left and far right” of holding an “anti-Semitic” stance. The ambassador has been invited to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday. MEP Anna Fotyga reacted to the words of the Moscow-born ambassador.

As a result of the Israeli attack on the World Central Kitchen humanitarian convoy, seven volunteers were killed, including Polish citizen Damian Soból. Shocked by the comment of the Israeli ambassador in Warsaw, I familiarized myself with his official biography. It would be better for the relations between our nations and centuries of shared history if Israel did not base its policies towards Poland as a by-product of its relations with Berlin and Moscow. Poland is a sovereign state,” Anna Fotyga wrote.

“Our region has been fighting for freedom and independence for centuries, just like Israel. This is perfectly reflected in the words of our anthems. Therefore, it is all the more surprising to question the sovereignty of my region expressed in the structure of Israeli diplomacy, affirming zones of influence, which is reflected in the professional biography of Ambassador Yakov Livne (former coordinator for the post-Soviet region),” pointed out the MEP from the Law and Justice Party.

“In Poland, we are well aware of what terrorism, including state-sponsored terrorism, entails. We know how Palestinian terrorism was supported by Moscow. And we know that one of the victims of Hamas’ barbaric attack is Polish citizen Alex Dancyg. I advocated for his release among influential people in the region. Israel, by emphasizing the importance of avoiding innocent casualties among civilians, should be able to acknowledge its mistakes. I want to believe that the state of Israel will transparently clarify the case of Damian Soból’s death, punish the guilty, and compensate the victims. I also trust that it will draw conclusions from the mistakes of its diplomacy, which does not contribute to understanding the fight against terrorism,” she concluded.
