During the night from Friday to Saturday, unknown perpetrators splashed green paint on five sites associated with the Jewish community in Paris, including three synagogues, according to the Paris police. France’s Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, condemned the incident, calling it “heinous.”
Act of Anti-Semitism
The facades of five locations in Paris’s 4th and 20th districts – the Shoah Memorial Museum, three synagogues, and the restaurant Chez Marianne – were defaced with green paint by an unknown individual. Surveillance footage captured a suspect, but their face was concealed, making identification difficult. Police are conducting an investigation into the matter.
A Similar Incident One Year Ago
“After red paint – now green,” wrote Ariel Weil, mayor of the 4th district, referencing an incident in May 2024 when red handprints were painted on the Shoah Memorial Museum building. French authorities later revealed that Russian intelligence services were behind that act.
Hélène Laporte of the National Rally party also commented on the attack:
“Last night in Paris, the Holocaust Memorial, the Wall of the Righteous, two Parisian synagogues, and a restaurant were sprayed with green paint. These vile acts are also the responsibility of segments of the far left, who openly engage in antisemitic rhetoric!”
Paris’s 4th district is historically linked to the Jewish community and is home to many places of worship and institutions belonging to that community.
