Attack by Biedroń on the president. “The harshest words should be directed at him”

Another politician from the governing coalition has attacked President Karol Nawrocki after his decision regarding Volodymyr Zelensky. Robert Biedroń assessed that the head of state “does not understand the basics of geopolitics”, and that his behavior resembles “a boy in short trousers”. The MEP also stated that the president “deserved” the harshest criticism.

As a reminder, before the weekend President Karol Nawrocki decided to strip the President of Ukraine of Poland’s highest state decoration. This was a reaction to Volodymyr Zelensky’s decision to name one of the Ukrainian military units after the “Heroes of the UPA”. The Ukrainian side reacted with outrage – Zelensky returned the order via courier service, and in its wake, Ukrainian state decorations were renounced by, among others, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and former Ukrainian presidents.

The president’s decision did not please politicians of the governing coalition, who unanimously criticize the decision of the Polish head of state. Some members of the ruling camp even shared on the platform X a post by Putin’s associate, Dmitry Medvedev.

Moreover – Prime Minister Donald Tusk referred to the situation on Sunday. In a post on platform X, he wrote words that equated the actions of both sides of the conflict, presenting himself as an external observer:

“Continuing the political conflict between politicians in Poland and Ukraine is a strategic mistake that will cause both sides to lose: economically, geopolitically and reputationally. And in politics, as is known, a mistake is worse than a crime. In my talks with my European partners I try to minimize losses and reduce tensions. It is not an easy task,” wrote the head of government, even though he had previously declared support for President Nawrocki’s decision.

Biedroń: the president like a boy in short trousers

New Left MEP Robert Biedroń joined the public attack on the President of Poland. In an interview with Onet, he even called for criticism of the head of state.

“This emotion, the desire to chase someone – in every society – unfortunately exists somewhere. And it can be easily ignited, fueled. And today Ukrainians are being made the scapegoat for all of this. The president, unfortunately, is cynically using this, because he has not matured into his role,” he stated.

And further: “If the president of a country neighboring a state facing an existential test – whether this nation will survive or not, in what form Ukraine and Europe will operate – does not understand the basics of geopolitics, then he is immature. He behaves like a boy in short trousers, and the harshest words today should be directed at the president, because he has earned them.”
