Blinken and Lammy Announce Joint Visit to Kyiv and Talks in Poland

The United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy announced a joint visit to Kyiv scheduled for Wednesday. This visit, which was revealed during a press conference in London, marks the first of its kind in over a decade. Blinken emphasized the importance of the timing, as Ukraine faces a critical moment during an intense autumn war season, with increasing attacks on cities and energy infrastructure.

    Focus on Ukraine

During their visit, Blinken and Lammy plan to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss the country’s most pressing needs. They will also address Ukraine’s potential integration into NATO and the European Union. Furthermore, Blinken hinted at discussions regarding the possible relaxation of restrictions on the use of long-range American and British weaponry against targets in Russia.

Following the Kyiv visit, Blinken will travel to Poland on Thursday for discussions with top Polish officials. The talks will focus on deepening bilateral defense and energy cooperation. This will be Blinken’s third visit to Poland, reflecting the strong ties between the two NATO allies. Both Blinken and Lammy are expected to brief their respective leaders, President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Keir Starmer, on the outcomes of these strategic meetings.
