Olympic volleyball stars meet in Lublin for the Bogdanka Volley Cup, honoring legendary player Tomasz Wójtowicz.
This weekend, Lublin will host the prestigious Bogdanka Volley Cup in honor of Tomasz Wójtowicz. Volleyball giants like Italy’s Sir Safety Perugia, Poland’s Jastrzębski Węgiel, Asseco Resovia Rzeszów, and local favorites Bogdanka LUK Lublin will compete. The tournament will feature eight players who participated in the volleyball finals at the Paris Olympics, including Olympic champions Benjamin Toniutti and Timothee Carle from France, and Poland’s silver medalists Tomasz Fornal and Wilfredo Leon.
Honoring a Volleyball Legend
The event also serves to honor Tomasz Wójtowicz, one of the sport’s greatest. Wójtowicz, the first Polish player inducted into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame, was a world champion in 1974 and Olympic gold medalist in 1976. The semi-final matches will take place on Saturday, with the finals scheduled for Sunday evening.
