Bosak: “Trump Alone Won’t Bring Peace to Ukraine”

In an interview with Ewa Bugała on TV Republika, Deputy Speaker of the Sejm Krzysztof Bosak stated that Donald Trump alone cannot win the war against Putin. He also emphasized that EU countries must develop adequate defense capabilities for Europe.

Is Lasting Peace in Ukraine Possible?

“Certainly not on his own. For the war to be halted, both sides capable of waging it must come to the conclusion that it’s time to stop military actions. These sides are Russia and Ukraine. President Trump’s self-assigned role is to bring both parties to an agreement. During his campaign, he promised a swift resolution. But is that really possible? Today, it’s clear that the situation is more complex than it seemed before. Or perhaps we will soon be surprised by a ceasefire? The situation is dynamic, but it must be a peace agreement on fair terms—not just a deal that benefits Russia.

The Trump administration has made it clear that there will be no ‘Minsk 3’—a new agreement similar to the previous Minsk accords, which were more favorable to Russia than to Ukraine. The Americans are signaling that they are not naive when it comes to these negotiations.” — said Krzysztof Bosak, Deputy Speaker of the Sejm.

Military Spending Is Not the Same as Defense Capability

“Defense spending does not equal a country’s defensive capability. I have always been one of the few to highlight this, and I continue to do so. It is one of the most overlooked issues in the debate on our security. Everyone talks about increasing defense budgets, but only a few, including myself, strongly emphasize that spending alone does not translate into real defense capacity or power projection.

The main challenge for EU and NATO countries today is not a lack of money, but a lack of political will to convert massive financial resources into significant defense capabilities in a short time. The EU keeps debating support programs for the defense industry—but that’s not enough. We need results within five years, not fifteen.” — said Bosak.
