Broken Promises? The Pro-PO “Hate-Monger” Hired by a State Company

How is it that the Civic Coalition (KO) pledged to combat hate speech and depoliticize state-owned companies, yet the state-controlled Totalizator Sportowy ends up employing an online agitator who attacks opponents of Civic Platform (PO)? When asked about it, Krzysztof Brejza hedged: “I’ve heard about that hiring, and from what other government colleagues have said, this individual is competent.”

The online troll known as Pablo Morales—actually Bartosz Kopania—makes a living thanks to the Civic Platform. But that’s not all. It turns out he also receives commissions from Totalizator Sportowy, a company under state control.

As revealed by the wp.pl portal, over eight years, the Civic Platform paid Kopania a total of 305,000 złotys. A large portion of this sum—around 250,000 zł—was earned between 2020 and 2023. Officially, he was paid for “political science analyses,” although the Civic Platform has been unable to specify what those analyses actually entailed.

According to the latest findings, Kopania has been receiving commissions from Totalizator Sportowy since the beginning of this year. In the company’s internal system for employees and collaborators, he is listed as a “contractor” for the Marketing Department.

Asked how it is that the Civic Coalition, after promising to fight hate speech and depoliticize state-owned companies, would allow an internet hate-monger—who targets PO’s opponents online—to find work at Totalizator Sportowy, Brejza was evasive:

“I don’t know the details of this matter. That’s all I can say—I saw something on Twitter,” he remarked, adding:

“I’ve heard about this hiring, and from the information provided by my colleagues in government, this is a competent individual.”
