The Ministry of Infrastructure is working on regulations aimed at expanding the network of roads covered by the electronic toll collection system. According to information published on the website of the Prime Minister’s Office, the focus is on highways and expressways that have been operational since 2017.
On Monday, the list of legislative and program works of the Council of Ministers, published on the Prime Minister’s Office website, included information about the planned amendment to the regulation concerning national roads or their sections subject to electronic tolls and the rates of these tolls. The Ministry of Infrastructure is currently working on this project.
“The proposed regulation aims to expand the network of national roads covered by the electronic toll collection system,” the information on the Prime Minister’s Office website stated.
It was added that the funds collected from the tolls will increase the revenue of the National Road Fund, which finances road investments. This will support the continued expansion of the national road network in Poland. The proposed regulation is part of the National Recovery Plan.
“It is recommended to extend the network of roads covered by the electronic toll collection system for vehicles over 3.5 tons to include newly built sections of highways and expressways,” the statement read. “The network of toll roads has not been expanded since 2017. Since then, a significant number of new sections of national roads classified as A and S have been put into use in Poland,” it explained.
Currently, the electronic toll is collected on approximately 3,660 km of national roads.
According to the announcement, the proposed regulation is expected to be adopted by the government in the third quarter of 2024.
