There is now confirmation: the bank document of Karol Nawrocki revealed by MEP Krzysztof Brejza comes from the files of Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW). The document is tied to a suspected scandal involving the apartment of the head of the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN).
On Wednesday, Brejza published the bank document online, sparking controversy over how he accessed such sensitive material. According to Stanisław Żaryn, advisor to President Andrzej Duda, the document is part of the verification proceedings concerning Nawrocki.
As the presidential campaign nears its end, news outlet Onet published a report alleging that presidential candidate Karol Nawrocki owns two apartments. The article also suggested that he obtained a 28-square-meter studio flat under questionable circumstances. Nawrocki has since elaborated on his relationship with Jerzy Żywicki, the previous owner of the apartment, and his campaign team presented both Żywicki’s will and the notarial deed.
Shortly after the Onet article was released, Nawrocki’s campaign staff, along with historian Prof. Sławomir Cenckiewicz, criticized the publication, alleging that it was based on leaks from the intelligence services. They claimed that the documents behind the revelations came from Nawrocki’s “PPS” file — the Polish acronym for Verification Procedure Files. On Wednesday, further evidence emerged supporting this claim.
“You’re headed for jail!”
“They tried to force through a so-called ‘citizen candidate’ for president, someone who’d rubber-stamp pardons in cases of fraud and scams. Turns out this ‘citizen’ might soon need a pardon himself,” Brejza wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Alongside his post, Brejza shared a photo of a bank document confirming that Nawrocki deposited 12,000 zł in cash — the payment was noted as the buyout for Jerzy Żywicki’s apartment.
How did Brejza get access to such a classified document? Presidential advisor Stanisław Żaryn responded to that question.
“Well, now we have confirmation of a scandal. The document published by K. Brejza is from the verification files of Karol Nawrocki,” Żaryn wrote on X.
Żaryn emphasized that “disclosing these materials constitutes a breach of the law, and passing them on for use in a political campaign is a very serious scandal.”
Historian Sławomir Cenckiewicz weighed in as well. “I have confirmation backing Minister Żaryn’s statement! The document indeed comes from Nawrocki’s PPS file!” he posted. “Gentlemen, you’re headed for jail!” he added.
It is worth noting that on Wednesday, Karol Nawrocki announced he was donating the apartment in question to charity.
