The Danish Armed Forces announced that two F-35 fighter jets and the frigate Niels Juel will be deployed to support Poland and NATO’s eastern flank, in order to strengthen deterrence and defense measures along the Alliance’s border with Russia and Belarus.
The Danish Armed Forces reported that the F-35 jets have been placed on standby at the Skrydstrup base in southern Jutland, while the frigate Niels Juel, equipped with modern radars, sensors, and an onboard helicopter, has been deployed to the Baltic Sea.
NATO Eastern Guard
As the command recalled, the deployment of these forces takes place as part of NATO’s Eastern Guard mission, launched in response to violations of Polish airspace by Russian drones in September.
The commander of the Danish Air Force, Jan Dam, emphasized that the F-35s are capable of responding quickly to any incidents. Meanwhile, the head of the navy, Soeren Kjeldsen, stressed that the frigate Niels Juel will significantly strengthen air defense capabilities. He also added that the onboard Seahawk helicopter extends the ship’s capabilities, supporting radar and sensor systems with additional data.
The duration of the mission will depend on NATO’s current operational needs, it was noted in the official statement.
