President Andrzej Duda took part in the celebrations of the 43rd anniversary of the signing of the August Agreements. The main ceremonies took place in front of the gate of the Szczecin Shipyard.
President Andrzej Duda with the shipyard workers laid a wreath at the monument “To the memory of the Fallen in December 1970 in the name of working class solidarity”.
“Thanks to that attitude we not only survived, but above all we won. Solidarity won, they won, you won.”
President wrote on X (Twitter)
“Today, we are following the last and perhaps the most crucial path that ultimately led us to a free Poland. Thanks to the steadfastness of the Solidarity movement members, patriots dedicated to the cause of historical truth, today, on the 43rd anniversary of the signing of the agreement here at the Szczecin Shipyard, which marked the end of the strike of the workers of the western coast, we are walking the path that has been leading us since 1970.”
President emphasized
The President highlighted that the workers, shipyard workers, railwaymen, and others who went on strike in 1970 and 1976 were conscious that there were at least hundreds of thousands of them.
“Subsequently, it turned out that there were indeed millions. Then, the emergence of Solidarity, its formation, and its transformation into a movement that united 10 million individuals – the largest social movement globally – stood as tangible evidence of both the unity, proactive engagement, and resilience of Polish society on one hand, and a protest against the prevailing circumstances, communist oppression, and the yearning for genuine freedom on the other.”
