“Solidarity” Responds to CBA’s Entry into the Gdańsk Regional Office

On Tuesday, officers from the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau (CBA) entered the Pomeranian branches of NSZZ “Solidarity” and secured evidence in an investigation related to suspected corruption, the prosecutor’s office reported. The case concerns the granting of subsidies to shipowners for ceasing fishing operations in the Baltic Sea.

A statement regarding the actions carried out by CBA officers at the headquarters of the Gdańsk Region of NSZZ “Solidarity” and one of the union’s intercompany organizations was published on the National Commission’s website.

“In response to today’s statement by the Regional Prosecutor in Gdańsk, we inform that, contrary to some media reports, the actions of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau officers concern one of the intercompany organizations registered within the Gdańsk Region of NSZZ ‘Solidarity.’ Under no circumstances do they pertain to the union as a whole.
The presence of officers at the headquarters of one of the intercompany organizations, as well as at the Gdańsk Regional Office, which serves as the registration authority for this organization, is related to an investigation initiated on August 2, 2024, by the District Prosecutor in Lębork and later taken over by the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Gdańsk.
Representatives of the Gdańsk Region of NSZZ ‘Solidarity’ are cooperating with the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Gdańsk and the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau to the extent necessary to clarify the matter.”

According to the prosecutor’s office, the case involves suspected criminal activity related to soliciting a significant financial benefit in exchange for granting shipowners subsidies to terminate their maritime fishing operations in the Baltic Sea, while also invoking alleged influence in a state institution.
