Deutsche Welle Employee Criticized Law and Justice MEP – Received a Strong Rebuttal

A journalist from the German broadcaster Deutsche Welle questioned Law and Justice MEP Piotr Muller about whether “tightening regulations” aligns with solidarity toward Ukraine. In response, the politician reminded him who truly supported Ukraine in the early days of the Russian invasion, and referenced the widely discussed shipment of 5,000 helmets Germany offered to Kyiv.

Question from Deutsche Welle Journalist on Aid to Ukraine – Strong Response from Law and Justice MEP

Piotr Muller, a Member of the European Parliament from the Law and Justice party, was asked by a journalist affiliated with Deutsche Welle and Gazeta Wyborcza about the EU’s approach to supporting Ukraine.

“Is Ukraine an ally of Poland or not? Are we pleased that stricter rules are now being applied to Ukraine? Or should the EU, as part of supporting its ally—an ally at war that it has backed for the past three years—demonstrate solidarity by tightening regulations?” – the journalist inquired.

In response, MEP Muller recalled that in 2022, while serving as government spokesperson, he attended a meeting with Chancellor Olaf Scholz just three days after the outbreak of the war.

“I clearly remember the indifference of the German government at the time, a government that was entirely unwilling to support Ukraine. A government that appeared to be waiting for Kyiv to fall. In fact, one could argue that this war erupted in part due to the decisions Germany made over many years, especially its continued support for Russia. There’s no need for agitation at Deutsche Welle when I remind you of what Germany was doing not so long ago—those were the facts. At that same time, the German government was offering to send 5,000 helmets,” – the MEP emphasized.

He added that “those helmets arrived many weeks after the war had begun—while Poland was already sending tanks, delivering humanitarian aid, and welcoming millions of Ukrainians into Polish homes.”

“However, this does not mean that in economic matters or trade relations, preferential treatment should be granted. We must support Ukraine in all matters concerning security, yes, but that does not imply that special privileges should be given within the framework of the European Union in economic terms. Our economies, including the Polish economy, also require equal conditions—fair play—in commercial dealings,” – Muller explained.
