President Andrzej Duda emphasised that President-elect Karol Nawrocki received a strong mandate from the citizens in the election to lead Polish affairs. He added that Nawrocki’s election as president should be seen as confirmation of the will to continue the key directions of his political leadership.
In his address yesterday, Andrzej Duda stated that Nawrocki’s inauguration will be “a true celebration of our democracy.” In his view, Nawrocki received from the citizens “a strong mandate to lead Polish affairs.”
“It is the voice of millions of our compatriots, indicating the kind of Poland they want: safe, proud, and faithful to its values,”
he said.
President Duda noted that, as “a president completing his ten-year service to Poland,” he will proudly take part in the inauguration ceremony of the new president.
“I would participate even if the voters had decided otherwise, because respect for the nation’s verdict and the continuity of power is the foundation of democracy. It is the Polish people who decide, not politicians, not the media, not interest groups,”
the president stressed.
He stated that he perceives Nawrocki’s election as “a confirmation of the will to continue the key directions in which he has led Polish affairs over the past ten years.” President added that he shares common values and views with the president-elect, as well as respect for the legacy of President Lech Kaczyński. He wished Nawrocki success and “an outstanding fulfilment of his mission.”
On Wednesday, August 6, with the inauguration of his successor Karol Nawrocki, Andrzej Duda’s ten-year presidency comes to an end.
