E.Leclerc Shutters Four Stores in Poland Amid Financial Losses

E.Leclerc closes four stores in Poland due to financial losses, while focusing on future growth and resource optimization.

French retail giant E.Leclerc is set to close four of its stores in Poland, affecting locations in Kędzierzyn-Koźle, Konin, Malbork, and Poznań. The decision comes as the company’s parent, Galec, grapples with significant financial challenges. Last year, Galec reported a net loss of 3.3 million PLN, prompting these closures and leaving employees at these stores facing unemployment.

    Future of E.Leclerc in Poland

E.Leclerc entered the Polish market in 1995, initially establishing itself in Warsaw before expanding to both large and mid-sized cities across the country. Despite the recent closures, the company remains committed to its long-term presence in Poland. According to Jean-Philippe Magre, president of E.Leclerc Polska, the closures are a strategic move to optimize resources and ensure future growth. Magre emphasized that the company’s focus will now shift toward developing a more efficient supermarket format and enhancing its logistics capabilities.
