ECC2023: The Polish women’s curling team with a gold medal

    Estimated reading time: 0 minutes

The Polish women’s curling team achieved great success at the European Championships in Dumfries, Scotland, securing promotion to Group B.

The Polish women’s team took first place in Group C

Scoring the gold medal in group C of the competition is a huge step forward for the Polish team, which had not achieved such results for a long time. The team consisting of Aneta Lipska, Ewa Nagly, Marta Leszczyńska, and Magdalena Kołodziej defeated Slovakia in a close final with a score of 8-7.

Thus, the women’s team became the first Polish team to advance to Group B in curling. In the bronze medal match, the men also won, defeating Slovenia 8-4. In total, ten teams participated in the European Championships in Dumfries, and eight of them won medals.

Ukraine became the Group C European champions, defeating Liechtenstein 10-2. Poland will remain in Group C, but the success of the women’s team gives hope for further victories and promotions to higher leagues. Curling in Poland is still not very popular, but such successes are certainly a good impulse for promoting this sport.

Details about qualification for the ECC2023 B-Division
Following a recent decision of the World Curling Federation Board, a host nation who have not already qualified, will be guaranteed a position in the B-Division at future European Curling Championships.

As the host for the Le Gruyère AOP European Curling Championships 2023 A- and B-Division is still to be confirmed, at this time only one team from each gender can be guaranteed promotion to the B-Division.

Should the host for the Le Gruyère AOP European Curling Championships 2023 A- and B-Division already be in either of these divisions, then a second team will also be promoted.
