Jerzy Noszczak, former coach of the Polish women’s national handball team, has passed away at 79. Born on March 24, 1945, in Wyłazy, Poland, he was a graduate of the Academy of Physical Education in Warsaw. Noszczak began his career as a teacher and coach, eventually leading the youth national team to a bronze medal at the 1985 World Championships.
National and International Success
Noszczak took over as head coach of the women’s national team in 1987, guiding them to two World Championship appearances. During his tenure, the team achieved 9th place in 1990 and 10th in 1993. He also found success at the club level, winning a Polish championship with Piotrcovia Piotrków Trybunalski in 1993 and a Polish Cup in 1995 with Via Vena Warsaw.
A Lasting Legacy
After retiring from coaching, Noszczak served for 26 years in Poland’s Handball Federation, contributing to the sport’s development. He was honored with the Diamond Badge and the Silver Cross of Merit for his outstanding contributions.
