Floodwaters breach defenses in Wleń, Poland, as residents face a worsening crisis with limited water supply and infrastructure damage.
Rising Waters Overtake Wleń
The town of Wleń in Lower Silesia faces a dire situation as floodwaters breach local defenses. Mayor Artur Zych announced the failure to hold back the rising waters, stating, “We have lost the fight against the great water.” The flooding began after water overflowed the levees near the Sisters of St. Elizabeth Center, slowly inundating the town. Despite efforts to control the situation, the water continues its advance.
Critical Infrastructure at Risk
With the Pilchowice Lake reservoir on the Bóbr River already overflowing, controlled water releases are being carried out. The crisis deepened when the water supply’s generator was flooded, leaving residents with only a limited water supply for the next eight hours. The mayor expressed gratitude to those who fought valiantly against the floods and assured that efforts would be made to provide provisions and water to the affected population.
