    Former treasury minister arrested for alleged corruption

    A former Polish treasury minister has been apprehended by anti-corruption officers in connection with a widespread corruption investigation, according to a high-ranking official in the Prime Minister’s Office.

    Today, Central Anti-Corruption Bureau (CBA) personnel detained Wlodzimierz K. (surname withheld under Polish law), a former treasury minister in the Donald Tusk administration (2013-2015) who is now a senior official of Warsaw City Hall. Stanislaw Zaryn, a deputy minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, reported the news on Twitter Monday morning.

    Suspected of corruption, Wlodzimierz K., has been under investigation. This investigation recently saw the arrest of former deputy treasury minister, Rafal Baniak, who consented to reveal his last name.

    Suspicion has fallen on Baniak and two other businessmen who have been taken into custody, as they are thought to have organized illegal agreements with the Warsaw-based waste disposal firm MPO, to the value of PLN 600 million (EUR 127 million).
