On Sunday, November 12, 2023, marked a significant milestone as the foundation stone was laid for the construction of the European Film Center CAMERIMAGE—the largest cultural investment project in Poland after the Museum of Polish History. This initiative, with a budget of 600 million PLN, is led by Minister of Culture and National Heritage Prof. Piotr Gliński, Toruń’s President Michał Zaleski, and Marek Żydowicz, Director of the Tumult Foundation, organizer of the world’s premier festival dedicated to cinematography, CAMERIMAGE.
This ambitious 600 million PLN project, funded by both the state budget (400 million PLN) and the city of Toruń (200 million PLN), will be located in Jordanki near Toruń’s Old Town. The European Film Center CAMERIMAGE aims to fill a void in Poland’s cultural infrastructure, providing a venue that meets global standards for film premieres and international film festivals.
Scheduled for completion in 2025, the ECFC will serve as a hub for international festivals, educational programs, artistic endeavors, congresses, premieres, film showcases, and various cultural events. The building, designed by Baumschlager Eberle Lustenau GmbH, promises to be a multifunctional space, fostering creativity and contributing to the region’s cultural development.
