George Simion: “Not a Single Leu for Other Countries”

George Simion, the presidential candidate from Romania’s nationalist AUR party, has declared that, if elected, he will not provide financial support to Ukraine or any other foreign country.

“Romania will not send a single leu abroad. We will focus entirely on our own people,” Simion stated.

When asked about Romania’s potential vote in the European Council on a new aid package for Ukraine, Simion responded:
“My country is Romania. I will vote solely in the interest of the Romanian nation, without prioritizing the needs of other states.”

Simion emphasized that Romania should concentrate on addressing the needs of its own citizens, including students, farmers, and pensioners.

He also called for compensation from Ukraine for the support Romania has already provided. Simion argued that Ukraine should respect the national and religious rights of the roughly half a million ethnic Romanians living within its borders. In his view, compensation could take the form of reconstruction contracts or grain deliveries.

The AUR candidate harshly criticized the donation of a Patriot missile system to Ukraine by President Klaus Iohannis, calling it “a betrayal of the Romanian people’s interests.”

According to Simion, Romania’s security depends on NATO, not the European Union.
