The Ministry of Development and Technology (MRiT) has proposed new regulations allowing municipalities to designate allotment garden locations within their local planning zones. This proposal, currently under public consultation and interministerial discussions, would enable municipalities to include these gardens in all 13 designated planning zones.
The ministry clarified that this change is part of an amendment to the ordinance on municipal planning, which governs the documentation of planning work and the issuance of extracts from general plans. The goal is to eliminate any interpretive ambiguities in current regulations.
In a bid to accelerate the process, the ministry bypassed internal consultations and submitted the project for public and interministerial consultations on September 20.
Poland currently has approximately 4,500 allotment gardens, covering 40,000 hectares and hosting over 900,000 developed plots, according to the ministry. These gardens play a significant role in the country’s urban and rural landscape, offering green spaces for recreation and cultivation.
