    Grand Chess Tour 2023: World Champion Magnus Carlsen will play in Warsaw

    FIDE International Chess Federation Secretary General Łukasz Turlej informed on Facebook that World Champion Magnus Carlsen will play in Warsaw as a part of Grand Chess Tour 2023!

    Magnus Carlsen is a Norwegian chess player who is widely considered one of the greatest chess players of all time. Born in 1990, Carlsen showed an early aptitude for the game, and at the age of 13, he became a Grandmaster, the youngest person ever to achieve this status at the time.

    Moreover, Carlsen is known for his charismatic personality and his efforts to popularize the game. He has worked with the Norwegian government to promote chess in schools, and he has also been involved in a number of high-profile charity events.


    The Grand Chess Tour continues for 2023 in magnificent fashion with $1.4 million total prize fund allocated between 5 events. It will once again feature 2 classical chess tournaments and 3 rapid & blitz tournaments spanning across Europe and the United States.
    
    The new season will kickoff with the Superbet Chess Classic Romania; followed by three rapid & blitz tournaments in Warsaw, Zagreb and Saint Louis; and will conclude with the final classical event, the Sinquefield Cup. 

    The event will take place on May 19-26 at the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews
