“I was once again assured yesterday and today that Poland is a model ally. It is an extremely important partner, if not the most important partner of the United States in Europe. It meets all the expectations for building a strong alliance and investing in security, and for taking responsibility for the security of Europe and NATO’s eastern flank,” said Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, the head of the Ministry of National Defence, after his meeting with Gen. Christopher Mahoney.
The Pentagon has decided to reduce the U.S. Brigade Combat Teams stationed in Europe from four to three, bringing the number back to the 2021 level. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell stressed that this means, among other things, a delay in the deployment of U.S. forces to Poland.
Gen. Christopher Mahoney, deputy chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, also discussed the issue in Poland today with the head of the Ministry of National Defence.
“I was once again assured yesterday and today that Poland is a model ally. It is an extremely important partner, if not the most important partner of the United States in Europe. It meets all the expectations for building a strong alliance and investing in security, and for taking responsibility for the security of Europe and NATO’s eastern flank,” emphasized the Minister of National Defence, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, at a press conference after his meeting with Mahoney.
The head of the Ministry of National Defence noted that “the ministry remains in close contact with Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth.”
“We will work together on the analysis and on plans for the deployment of U.S. forces in Europe. That planning process is now underway, and it is being led by Gen. Alexus Grynkewich,” Kosiniak-Kamysz said.
“Poland will not only be informed, but will also take part in this process and be involved. (…) The Department remains in close contact with its Polish counterparts during the analysis, which at the same time ensures the maintenance of a strong U.S. military presence in Poland,” the head of the Ministry of National Defence added.
He argued that his ministry is in contact with the presidential office, including the National Security Bureau.
The meeting was also attended by the Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces, Gen. Wiesław Kukuła, and the U.S. ambassador to Poland, Tom Rose.
