In the spirit of unity and defiance against aggression, the Lviv National Philharmonic Orchestra of Ukraine, led by conductor Bohdan Boguszewski, is set to perform Ignacy Jan Paderewski’s Symphony “Polonia.” This monumental composition will be presented in two historic venues: Krzysztof Penderecki’s European Centre for Music in Lusławice and Vienna’s St. Joseph’s Church on Kahlenberg Hill.
The performances mark the 340th anniversary of the Battle of Vienna, the 105th anniversary of Poland’s independence, and the 40th anniversary of Pope John Paul II’s visit to Kahlenberg. These concerts are a protest against Russia’s aggression in Ukraine and a dedication to the women and children affected by the conflict.
Paderewski’s unique connection to both Ukraine and Poland makes “Polonia” a symbol of unity and a beautiful gesture from modern-day Ukrainian musicians. It’s a powerful reminder that over a century ago, Poland fought for independence against the same aggressor. This musical tribute holds great significance, bringing together nations in the pursuit of peace.
