A dispute over the presence of a religious-historical symbol in the public space of Łask has reached a swift and positive conclusion. As a result of firm opposition from residents, supported by professional legal assistance from the Institute for Legal Culture Ordo Iuris and the Fidei Defensor Association, an agreement was reached with the city authorities.
The Mayor of Łask, Monika Mrowińska, issued a statement in which she clarified her intentions and declared the immediate restoration of the image of the city and municipality’s patron, Our Lady of Łask, to the Municipal Office building.
The issue gained public attention when, in mid-May, a commemorative image of Our Lady of Łask, along with an accompanying Vatican bull, was removed from the office of the Mayor of Łask (Łódź Voivodeship).
This decision caused significant concern and outrage among residents of the city and municipality, for whom the figure of Our Lady of Łask represents a foundation of local identity.
In response to the actions taken by the municipal authorities, the local community organized a protest campaign. A key element of the resistance was the preparation of an official petition addressed to the mayor. Organizations defending religious freedom and tradition actively joined these efforts: the Institute for Legal Culture Ordo Iuris and the Fidei Defensor Association.
The establishment of Our Lady of Łask as the official patron of the City and Municipality of Łask was the result of many months of efforts by the local community during 2022–2023.
The coordinated civic action and legal support produced the expected outcome. On May 21, the Mayor of Łask, Monika Mrowińska, issued an official statement addressing the growing emotions and public debate. She emphasized that her intention had never been to diminish the role of the patron, whom she herself – as a councillor in 2022 – had personally supported in the vote.
