Bail and court decision

Following the tragic death of MP Łukasz Litewka from New Left, investigators continue their efforts to clarify all the circumstances of the accident. The case has attracted significant public attention.

The 57-year-old driver suspected of causing the fatal accident has been released from custody after posting bail of 40,000 PLN. The decision has prompted a response from the prosecutor’s office, which filed an appeal, arguing that pre-trial detention would have been a more appropriate preventive measure.

As reported by the spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Sosnowiec, the bail money came from the suspect’s closest relatives:

“They were people closest to him,” said Prosecutor Bartosz Kilian.

Investigators emphasize that the proceedings are ongoing and continue to be closely monitored. They also point to the situation surrounding the suspect in the public sphere and online:

“We are still monitoring the digital space. So far, we have not identified any incidents involving a direct threat to the suspect or his immediate family,” Prosecutor Bartosz Kilian stated.

According to the prosecutor’s office, no further arrests have been made in the case.

The accident occurred at the end of April. MP Łukasz Litewka died while cycling after being struck by a car driven by a 57-year-old resident of Sosnowiec. The man has been charged with causing a fatal traffic accident.

During the proceedings, investigators also examined the hypothesis that the driver may have suffered a medical episode while behind the wheel.

The funeral ceremonies for the MP were held in Sosnowiec. The event was attended by representatives of state authorities, including President Karol Nawrocki and his wife.

The President posthumously awarded Łukasz Litewka the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
