“Imagine a similar ‘operation’ during the previous term, not even at the home of some editor-in-chief of TVN or another propaganda organ of Tusk, but for example at the home of Dobrosz-Oracz or Morozowski. I can already see protests in Brussels and threats to expel Poland from the EU for violating ‘freedom of speech, media independence, and attacking impartial journalists’” — this is how Paweł Kukiz, an MP from Direct Democracy, commented on the police operation at the apartment of Tomasz Sakiewicz.
In recent days, a series of police interventions and strange provocations targeting the circle connected with TV Republikahave taken place. The incident that resonated most loudly was Friday’s forced entry by officers into the apartment of the station’s editor-in-chief, Tomasz Sakiewicz, and the handcuffing of his assistant.
The scandalous intervention echoed widely in the worlds of media and politics. Voices of solidarity with Tomasz Sakiewicz and the media outlets of the Free Speech Zone flowed in from many sides. Meanwhile, the ruling camp tried to downplay and ridicule the matter, while at the same time creating various insinuations.
Paweł Kukiz from the Parliamentary Circle of Direct Democracy stated that, in light of what happened at the apartment of Tomasz Sakiewicz, “words are lacking.”
“Imagine a similar ‘operation’ during the previous term, not even at the home of some editor-in-chief of TVN or another propaganda organ of Tusk, but for example at the home of Dobrosz-Oracz or Morozowski. I can already see protests in Brussels and threats to expel Poland from the EU for violating ‘freedom of speech, media independence, and attacking impartial journalists,’” Kukiz indicated.
He also criticized the leadership of the police.
“As the top leadership is, so are the provincial commanders, and as the provincial commanders are, so are the county commanders. And as a result of this, at the very bottom we have, day by day, more and more officers giving the impression of either being mentally disabled or having some kind of sadistic overzealousness in order to be promoted one rank higher under the auspices of a politicized superior… Horrifying…” he added.
