National Day of Remembrance for Steadfast Clergy in Niepokalanów

Commemoration of Polish clergy’s heroic sacrifices at the National Day of Remembrance for Steadfast Clergy in Niepokalanów.

The 7th National Day of Remembrance for Steadfast Clergy will be celebrated in Niepokalanów on Sunday, October 20th. This state holiday, established in 2018, commemorates the martyrdom of Blessed Father Jerzy Popiełuszko, who died on October 19, 1984, and honors the role of Polish clergy in defending faith and fostering patriotism throughout history.

    Commemoration of Heroic Clergy

The event pays tribute to clergy who sacrificed their lives for Poland, including Father Ignacy Skorupka, a chaplain who perished in the Battle of Warsaw. During World War II, many priests, including Saint Maximilian Kolbe, became martyrs, alongside those brutally murdered in Nazi and Soviet atrocities.

    Program Highlights

The day begins in Warsaw with a motorcycle gathering and a procession to Niepokalanów. In Niepokalanów, a flower-laying ceremony, a lecture, Holy Mass, and a concert will honor the steadfast clergy. The event is organized in collaboration with the Institute of National Remembrance, under the patronage of Dr. Karol Nawrocki.
