Marcin Horała from the Law and Justice party (Prawo i Sprawiedliwość) and Łukasz Osmalak from the Third Way (Trzecia Droga) coalition were guests on the program Gość Dzisiaj on TV Republika. The discussion focused on the recent meeting between Karol Nawrocki and Donald Trump at the White House, as well as issues related to national defense and healthcare, in the context of the tragic killing of a child at a hospital in Oleśnica.
Marcin Horała noted that Donald Trump effectively breached diplomatic protocol by inviting Karol Nawrocki.
“Of course, Karol Nawrocki is currently only a candidate for the presidency, not the President of Poland, so this situation demonstrates that Donald Trump attaches great importance to relations with Poland. In diplomacy, it is customary for presidents to meet their counterparts, so in order to meet with Karol Nawrocki, Trump deviated somewhat from standard diplomatic protocol. And this is a major success for Poland. It shows that if we have, in the future, a leader who knows how to conduct himself diplomatically—one who does not label Trump an agent, as Tusk and Sikorski did—then the problems that Europe has with Trump will not concern Poland. If Karol Nawrocki becomes the face and representative in dialogues with the Americans, this meeting has now sent a signal to the entire U.S. administration that the President is meeting with Nawrocki and that he is a significant figure. I am pleased that all the most important figures in the American administration met with Karol Nawrocki,”
said Horała.
Łukasz Osmalak stated that the meeting with the U.S. President should be viewed positively by all Poles.
“Every responsible Pole, not just politicians, should be glad that it is a Polish politician who is meeting with Donald Trump. However, I believe we should assess everything happening in our local sphere in connection with foreign policy, regardless of our political affiliations. On such matters, we should present a united front. If a Polish politician is meeting someone important abroad, it would simply be wrong on a human level to belittle or criticize such a meeting. For Poland, this is an important signal, as it indicates that President Donald Trump is seriously considering relations with Poland and regards the country as a key partner in Europe. I see this as a very serious declaration between the two countries, although, of course, not all of Trump’s past declarations have been fulfilled. Nonetheless, I believe this is a positive signal, and it would be unfair to mock or criticize this situation,”
assessed Osmalak.
