New Polish Defense Minister Dissolves Smolensk Subcommission in Tu-154 Crash Investigation

    Estimated reading time: 1 minute

In a decisive move, Polish Defense Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz has disbanded the subcommission investigating the 2010 Tu-154 plane crash in Smolensk. The dissolution involves the retrieval of all documentation, properties, and equipment used by subcommission members, who are required to report by December 18, 2023.

This decision comes in the wake of the 2016 subcommission formation under then-Defense Minister Antoni Macierewicz. The move emphasizes a comprehensive accountability process for subcommission members.

Spokesperson Janusz Sejmej announced the creation of a specialized team to analyze every aspect of the dissolved subcommission’s operations. The official report by Jerzy Miller, largely aligned with the Russian MAK committee, will regain prominence in ongoing efforts to bring clarity to the Smolensk tragedy.
